Same Day Crowns

Dental crowns are restorative fixtures placed over existing teeth.  These restorations are used for many reasons and may be performed as stand-alone procedures or in conjunction with other dental services. Houston Dentists at Post Oak has an in-office crown milling unit and software. This allows crowns to be designed and fabricated while patients wait comfortably. In most cases, patients will not need temporary crowns while permanent crowns are fabricated; permanent crowns at Houston Dentists at Post Oak are same-day procedures. Porcelain dental crowns by Houston Dentists at Post Oak are color-matched to the surrounding natural teeth for a seamless smile, and in most cases can be made and cemented the same day.  Same day dental crowns are commonly applied to:

Repair. Chipped, cracked, and decayed teeth can be repaired by restoring the damaged tooth with a porcelain dental crown.

Restore. Misshapen, discolored, and stained teeth can be restored with same day dental crowns for a brilliant and symmetrical smile.

Reinforce. Teeth which have undergone root canals or have been otherwise weakened can be reinforced with dental crowns.

Replace. Implants restored with crowns and bridges may be included to replace missing teeth for support and appearance. Crowns for implants and bridges are fabricated offsite, requiring a second visit.

Dental crowns are restorations placed over the entire visible portion existing teeth, up to the gum line.  Porcelain dental crowns can conceal teeth which have greyed, balance uneven teeth, and fill gaps in the smile and more.  Fixed in place during a single visit, permanent porcelain dental crowns are non-removable and feel just like natural teeth.

Porcelain Crown Dental Procedure

At Houston Dentists at Post Oak, permanent dental crowns can be measured, created, and fitted in a single visit.

Consultation

Appointments begin with a consultation.  Once the decision is made to fit a dental crown, the tooth receiving a crown is digitally scanned, and the teeth are color matched.

Mapping

We want our patients to feel comfortable.  Digital tooth-scans eliminate the need for uncomfortable oral impressions.  After procedures, scans are archived for later reference.

Crafting

Houston Dentists at Post Oak can create same-day porcelain crowns right in our dental office!  Inputting scans into a milling machine, permanent dental crowns are quickly fabricated on-site.

Fitting

With porcelain crowns by the Houston Dentists at Post Oak receive permanent crowns during the first visit.  Custom crowns fabricated on-site are permanently bonded in place, eliminating the need for a second visit.

Crowns are cemented firmly in place with the aid of local anesthetic.  Unlike dentures, permanent porcelain crowns remain securely fitted both day and night.

Dental Crown Aftercare

Same day porcelain looks and feels like natural teeth.  Still, porcelain dental crowns may require a small amount of extra attention to maintain integrity and luster.

Brush your teeth at least twice per day. Many dentists recommend brushing after breakfast, lunch, and dinner to remove food and other residues from the teeth.  At a minimum, brushing at least twice per day can keep teeth free of plaque and bacteria, promoting better oral health and protecting crowns.

Avoid hard foods and trauma to the crown. Porcelain dental crowns are strong, yet may be damaged by particularly hard foods, teeth grinding (bruxism), chewing on hard items and other impacts. Choosing foods wisely can help prevent damage to dental crowns, and mouth guards can help limit bruxism through the night.

Visit the dentist for regular checkups. Regular dental checkups at Houston Dentists at Post Oak will help ensure the longevity of porcelain dental crowns. Visiting the dentist at least twice per year for cleanings and exams boosts oral and body health.  Crowns can last a very long time given the proper care.

Why waste time with temporary crowns?  Permanent porcelain dental crowns by Houston Dentists at Post Oak are designed, created, and seated during a single visit.  Now that’s something to smile about!
